Code of Practice

Queensland's Code of Practice for the Building and Construction Industry outlines specific principles and standards of behaviour that underpin best practice and promote positive change in the industry.

The Code has bearing on such aspects as:

It was drawn up in consultation with industry and unions and adopted in August 2000.

The code is available to download at www.dir.qld.gov.au/industrial/law/codes/construction/

All contractors and consultants wanting to do Queensland Government building projects need to operate according to the Code - it's a prerequisite to gaining prequalification (PQC).

Voluntary adoption is encouraged among those who undertake local government and non-government construction work.

The Works Division - which is responsible for the PQC register that all government agencies draw on for prequalified building construction contractors and consultants - will monitor the adoption and implementation of the Code.
