Nation Building-Economic Stimulus Plan

On 3 February 2009 the Federal Government announced a $42 billion Nation Building and Jobs Plan (since renamed the Nation Building-Economic Stimulus Plan) to support jobs and invest in future long term economic growth.

The Federal Treasury estimated that the Plan would support up to 90 000 jobs in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

Queensland will receive around $4 billion over three financial years and the resulting building projects will create around 30 000 jobs for Queenslanders.

The $4 billion includes around $2.7 billion for Building the Education Revolution Projects, around $1.278 billion for Social Housing and around $126 million for Roads and Safety projects.

This includes $80 million over two years for repairs to existing social houses, and $1.1 billion for new social housing between 2009 and 2012.  The funding will provide an historic rapid increase in the number of social housing properties in Queensland.

Contactors and consultants must first pre-qualify or register with the Department of Public Works to be eligible to tender for work around Queensland.
