Cultural heritage

Before the construction of any project, the Department of Public Works ensures all reasonable and practicable measures are taken to ensure the activity does not harm Aboriginal cultural heritage.

The Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 (Qld) and the Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage Act 2003 (Qld) recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the primary authority on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage.

These documents aim to help the continuation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, traditions and customs.
