As leader of the Queensland Government’s capital works building program, the Department of Public Works helps build and maintain the public facilities, such as schools, public housing, hospitals, police stations and courthouses, that serve Queenslanders.

It is an important role, providing invaluable support to the Queensland Government and its agencies in delivering improved services and facilities across the State.

The department is Queensland's lead agency in providing government buildings; in the application of whole-of-Government information and communication technology; in procurement; in the provision of support services such as fleet management, printing and office supplies; disaster management and recovery; and in recordkeeping in Queensland’s public sector.

The department also provides corporate services and business solutions to Queensland Government agencies through the Shared Service Agency, CorpTech and Smart Service Queensland.
